Signs Your Cannabis Concentrate Is Good

Whether you’re buying your wax and shatter from ‘your guy’ or at the closest dispensary, you may wonder about quality. Wax, for instance, varies wildly. Some is dark and ear-wax like while some is almost as green as rosin.

Does this even matter? Furthermore, is rosin automatically better quality just because it’s so green?

Understanding how to tell the difference between concentrate quality is important and fun. Like a fine wine, the right concentrate will deliver excellent flavor. It should also get you hella high.

Signs Your Cannabis Concentrate Is Good: What Are Concentrates?

Cannabis concentrates are extracted cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Hemp and cannabis contain these substances within their structures. They can be separated, however, with chemicals or certain physical processes.

People make rosin with heat and pressure. They apply these to cannabis bud to separate the physical part of the bud from these valuable compounds.

Conversely, people make BHO and PHO with a chemical solvent. By flushing these solvents through cannabis, cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavinoids separate. Thereafter, the chemical solvent is purged and wax, shatter or crumble remains.

After extraction, concentrates have to set up or cool. If they remain undisturbed, shatter results. If manufacturers manipulate them, wax results. Essentially, these substances are the same and vary only in consistency.

Signs Your Cannabis Concentrate Is Good: Color

Color is one quality indicator, but it isn’t the only or most important sign. If your wax or shatter is light colored and smells like good weed, it’s probably good. You really won’t know until you vape it, however.

The mother strain, the age of the cannabis, how it was cured, and a variety of other factors affect concentrate color. A nice, vibrant green wax could be awesome, or it could be weak. Only using it reveals the truth.

Signs Your Cannabis Concentrate Is Good: Clarity

For lack of a better term, let’s talk about the concentrate’s ‘clarity.’ This means how pure the concentrate looks. For wax, high quality means a smooth substance without any graininess. This is a better quality indicator than color.

Good wax doesn’t contain a lot of sediment or plant material, especially once it’s melted.

Signs Your Cannabis Concentrate Is Good: Smell

Great concentrates also smell great. While extraction eliminates some terpenes, your shatter should still smell like good weed.

Rosin may smell stronger than chemically extracted concentrates, but the older the concentrate is, the less odor it contains. Terpenes are pretty volatile and diminish over time.

Signs Your Cannabis Concentrate Is Good: Is Rosin Better?

Good rosin and good wax are pretty similar, but some people simply prefer rosin’s purity. Unless we put both head to head in a lab test, we can’t really say. We can tell you, however, that if your concentrate is good, there shouldn’t be a huge difference. It comes down to personal preference here.
