You’re really on the cutting edge now, Pony fans. Today we’re talking about Rosin, a super pure cannabis concentrate made without any toxic solvents. There’s reason to get excited.
For starters, you may be able to pull this off at home in a few minutes. Additionally, we’re talking about super clean smoke.
First thing’s first, though. Let’s review traditional cannabis concentrates, the solvent extracted sort.
Cannabis Concentrate, Solvent Extracted
Shatter, BHO, and wax, are all cannabis concentrates. They’re different from rosin, though, because light hydrocarbons like butane or propane are flushed through cannabis flower in order to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant material.
Terpenes and cannabinoids are the compounds in marijuana that bond to receptors in the brain to make you feel a range of effects. There are several terpenes and cannabinoids and each is a special little snowflake, but that’s a whole discussion of it’s own that we won’t go into here.
Thanks to all those psychoactive goodies extraction pulls out, the end result is around 80% more potent than regular plant flower. Concentrates are also tastier.
Generally, extracted concentrates are safe, because there is a lengthy purging process to remove all the residual hydrocarbon. It’s still a little disconcerting to some users.
How Rosin Is Made
Rosin, on the other hand, comes from a mechanical not chemical process. When we tell you how to do it, you won’t believe it.
Heat and pressure are applied to cannabis flower and like magic, rosin results. It looks a lot like BHO or, sometimes, shatter.
With a hair straightener, some parchment paper, heat resistant gloves, and something to collect the rosin in, you can make your own at home. It’s ready to go as soon as it’s done, no chemistry degree required.
How To Use Rosin
Use your rosin any way you’d use wax, BHO, or shatter.
Slap some in your dab rig on a heated nail and take a breather.
E-nails are electric and will heat themselves. Regular dab rig nails are made of ceramic, quartz, titanium, or glass. You need a torch of some kind to heat the nail before transferring some rosin onto it.
Some vaporizers and e-pens will accommodate rosin too. Make sure they can handle concentrates before you give it a go. If you don’t know how vaporizers work, they warm the air around the substance until it vapes into existence. There’s no combustion.
It could be that the purest concentrate toke ever is born from rosin in a vape. That’s an interesting windmill to chase.
